Six Pack Challenge for the Smackdown Women’s Championship Set for WWE Backlash (August, 23rd 2016)
On This Past Tuesdays Post Summerslam episode of Smackdown, teased earlier in the night, new Championship titles were officially introduced to the Blue Brand, New Tag Team Championship Titles and a new Women’s Championship. Baring resemblance to the championship used for the RAW Brand, only differentiating with a blue color, the gold will belong to only one woman as the entire women’s division clash at the returning (and brand exclusive) Backlash Pay Per View in an announced Six Pack Challenge, where the first woman to pin a fellow competitor will become the inaugural Smackdown Women’s Champion.
The Announcement comes days after Nikki Bella returned to WWE Television to compete for the blue brand alongside Natalya and Alexa Bliss against their fellow Smackdown Women’s Wrestlers Naomi, Becky Lynch and Carmella, with the Team headed by Bella winning the match, though its worth noting Bella’s addition was last moment due to the sudden suspension of Eva Marie. Nikki looked to showcase her in ring skills a second time since returning, booked against Carmella on this weeks Smackdown in a match that never happened when the Princess of Staten Island, of whom she pinned this past Sunday, viciously attacked her, adopting the heel persona once seen in her early days at NXT, while turning Nikki into a babyface. The feud escalated on the Smackdown post show when the newly healed Bella was attacked by Carmella again. On Top Naomi has received praise time after time for being one of the most athletic competitors to ever grace the WWE ring, Natalya also as a fellow underrated worker who has gone years without a championship title in hand, Alexa Bliss has become one of the vastly improved members of NXT and in turn, has brought her vicious persona as well to the Smackdown Brand and in turn, would look to complete her package with gold around her waist, and Becky Lynch remains as the lone Horsewoman yet to obtain gold, though she has a high amount of fan backing as she looks to complete that quest.
Regardless only one of Six Women can emerge with history in the books with the record of being the first Smackdown Women’s Champion, and Eva Marie’s suspension leaves her out of this event, but one cant rule out her entrance music trolling one of these competitors. Regardless be sure to tune into WWE Backlash in just two weeks time, Live on the WWE Network to see which female competitor makes history, plus a historic bout is also soon to come as AJ Styles battles Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship.
