Cattie’s Catch Up: Derrick Bateman Interrupts the Wedding Ceremony of Maxine and Johnny Curtis (January, 18th 2012)

Welcome All to a New Edition of Cattie’s Catch Up, and in honor of the wedding of Laurel and Braxton on this weeks IMPACT, which you will have me talk about very soon, this weeks edition is suitably focused on the theme of wrestling weddings. Plenty have taken place as angles in the wrestling business, from Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth, to AJ Lee and Daniel Bryan to Rusev and Lana, but there’s one even i had forgotten as of late, from the old format of NXT before its revamping, featuring three familiar faces, Maxine (Lucha Undergrounds Catrina), Johnny Curtis (Fandango) and Derrick Bateman (EC3).

The Wedding of Maxine and Curtis came after several weeks of an engaging love triangle featuring the two and EC3s then WWE Persona, Bateman. Bateman ended up intervening in the in ring ceremony to reveal Curtis had plotted to sabotage Bateman by stealing his Ipad to send an email to Theodore Long that would send Maxine from NXT to Smackdown. Seeing into Curtis’s actions, Maxine ditched all plans to marry him, leaving with Bateman. Regardless of the on/off alignments, the pairing became one of WWEs debated pairings to have many opportunities missed out on, breaking out through their respective companies of Lucha Underground and IMPACT Wrestling. And to think they were reunited some years later on TNAs Knockouts Knockdown Special for one night only…
