Five Person Number One Contendership Elimination Match Set for WWE Battleground (July, 11th 2017)

This Past Tuesday on Smackdown, News was broken regarding a question sought by Smackdown Women’s Champion Naomi as to who would be her future contender as 1/2 of the Smackdown General Managers Shane McMahon announced that bright and hopeful future challengers Charlotte, Natalya, Tamina, Becky Lynch and Lana would duke it out in a Five Person Elimination Match to crown the newest contender to the Smackdown Women’s Championship at WWE Battleground, with Summerslam Implications.

Since rising up again at WrestleMania 33, Naomi has defended her championship against selective competitors, from now RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, to also Former RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte to the most recent in ring acquisition for the Smackdown Brand, Lana. Lana’s hopes to prove herself in the ring lead to her angrily pursuing Naomi, though thwarted in her many attempts to become the champion. However a recent alliance forged between Lana and Naomi’s former Team BAD Partner Tamina has helped Tamina gain dominance over the Women’s Division, notably pinning Charlotte this past Tuesday on Smackdown, another woman awaiting a Smackdown Women’s Championship Rematch. While Miss MITB Carmella waits in the wings to cash in whenever possible, Becky Lynch, who came close twice to obtaining the history snatched by Carmella, also looks to tie Naomi as a 2x Smackdown Women’s Champion while Natalya also looks to gain her first championship in several years, also gaining notable pinfalls this year over the likes of Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella.

Only One Woman will remain standing in this contested elimination match as Naomi’s Challenger at WWE Summerslam, and all that will be found out when WWE Battleground comes to you live on the WWE Network and on Sky Sports Box Office at 1am UK Time on Sunday July 23rd/Mon 24th. Other matches include a Money in the Bank Rematch as the Usos again defend the Smackdown Tag Team Championship against the New Day and Randy Orton challenges Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship in a Punjabi Prison Match.
