Your Monday Post #173: Gail Kim vs Maryse in the Finals of the Divas Championship Tournament (February, 22nd 2010)

Welcome all to a new week of wrestling, and bad news has hit the Women’s Division on Monday Night RAW to kick-start the week. Original Contender to Alexa Bliss’s Women’s Championship, Bayley, is out of Summerslam due to a separated shoulder, leaving the contendership spot open to a number of women on the roster, decided via two qualifying triple threat matches, with the victors meeting to decide the championship contender next week. This isn’t the first time such a moment has happened in the history of WWE, as Melina suffering an injury in 2010 lead to the vacating of her Divas Championship, decided also via qualifying matches.

Gail Kim and Maryse ended up being the final two, the two women fighting over the right to be Divas Champion. The night before at Elimination Chamber, the Finals of the tournament was to take place, with Gail and Maryse fighting for that right, but changes made by Vickie Guerrero instead pitted these heated rivals in a losing effort against Smackdowns Troublesome force of Michelle McCool and Layla. Maryse would attack Gail after the match and leave her laying, heating things up between the two before their rescheduled match that took place the following night on RAW. Maryse would ultimately win the match, in turn capturing her second Divas Championship Title.
