Your Monday Post #227: Six Pack Challenge Match for the WWE Smackdown Womens Championship at WWE Backlash 2016 (September, 11th 2016)

A Crazy Weekend of Wrestling has culminated in the explosive heel turn of a long term fan favorite in Becky Lynch, destroying her now former best friend Charlotte Flair after Flairs second Smackdown Women’s Championship victory last night at WWE Summerslam. With that being said, while Lynch didn’t pick up the victory a lot of fans backed for, lets go back to the time where Lynch had the championship deservedly prized, back at WWE Backlash in 2016.

The Reintroduced Brand Split saw the RAW and Smackdown Women’s Divisions divided, and while RAW had their own women’s championship in the newly christened Women’s Championship introduced at WrestleMania that year in the place of the retired Divas Championship, Smackdown was without its gold for its females until WWE Backlash that year introduced a six woman match, a six pack challenge under elimination rules that would see the remaining woman crowned as the inaugural champion. Competing in that match were Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Natalya, the newly heel Carmella, Nikki Bella who was Carmella’s nemesis at the time and much loved underdog Becky Lynch. Lynch would end up winning the match by eliminating lastly Carmella, the very woman she intended to face one on one at Summerslam this year. In turn, she did indeed become the Smackdown Women’s Champion, and was adored after her victory by the attending fans. Becky would give her thanks after her title victory, thanking her fans also for believing in her and getting her to the stage of becoming a champion in WWE. With that now just a reflective memory, one can wonder how much longer it will be before the Lasskicker, now under a different persona, clenches gold again.
