Kay Lee Ray and Io Shirai Added to WWE NXT Womens Championship Match at WWE NXT: Stand and Deliver (March, 22nd 2022)
As seen during Tuesdays episode of WWE NXT, a blockbuster win for Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic combatants, Kay Lee Ray and Io Shirai, came with a swerve, as following the bout, the Scot, along with the victorious Joshi Judas, announced that they would be “cashing in” their original tag team title shot to instead create a fatal four way for the NXT Womens Championship at NXT: Stand and Deliver.
Originally, Cora Jade was bound for a singles championship match against Mandy Rose coming out of the NXT Womens Champions attack on her last week. However, Mandy, along with her Toxic Attraction cohorts (and current NXT Womens Tag Team Champions) GiGi and Jacy, share plentiful history with Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray. Shirai had opposed Toxic Attraction at WarGames last year alongside Kay Lee Ray and her fellow teammates Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez, and earlier this year, Kay Lee Ray singularly challenged Mandy for the championship but came up short. The more rageful side of the former NXT UK Womens Champion has since sided with Io Shirai, who originally was going partner-less for the Dusty Cup due to Zoey Starks unfortunate injury, and with Io and Kay Lee Ray united, the two also expressed a common goal, to destroy Toxic Attraction, and upon being entered into the Womens Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, the new pairing sailed through the prestigious tournament, defeating Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo also during this weeks final round match. As noted, though deemed as challengers initially to the NXT Womens Tag Team Championships, the pivot by Kay Lee Ray to cash in the initial shot for the singles gold now has the NXT Womens Championship Match standing as a Fatal Four Way Match, where Mandy wont even have to be pinned or submitted to lose her gold.
