WWE NXT RESULTS: Stratton Puts an End to Fun and Best Friend Tandem Puts an End to One Reign of Toxic Attraction (July, 5th 2022)

Welcome all to this weeks NXT report, detailing all events womens related from the Great American Bash special. While Mandy Rose missed out on defending her championship on the card (we’ll see that next week) last night was the turn of her cohorts, as Jacy Jayne and GiGi Dolin defended the NXT Womens Tag Team Championships against the best friend tandem of Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Plus, Tiffany Stratton looks to put an end to the meddlesome but hilarious antics of Wendy Choo as the two go one on one, and Ivy Nile finds herself caught up between Tatum Paxley and the slowly turning villainous Kayden Carter and Katana Chance.

The night opens with a big party hosted by Fallon Henley and NXT UK Tag Team Champions Briggs and Jensen, and in attendance womens wise are Brooklyn Barlow, Arianna Grace and Sloane Jacobs, Nikkita Lyons and Indi Hartwell. Arianna and Sloane play with a beach ball, admired by Jensen though Briggs has to have him snap out of it. Indi and Nikkita are also playing with a frisbee at pool side, discussing in the meantime the NXT Womens Tag Team Title match. Indi believes she knows whose winning that, and Nikkita gives probably the same answer as her, Cora and Roxanne. Sat nearby is Quincy Elliott, debating that potential win with Indi and Nikkita, but Indi wont listen to someone who wears socks by a pool. Quincy tries to drown her and Nikkita out by constantly reminding them that Toxic Attraction are two time womens tag team champions. The former Quinn McKay, now Kelly Kincaid, leaves a pool and attracts some eyes, while Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon are shown also sat down chatting, and it turns out Sanga is with them, as the three give disapproving looks to Duke Hudson. Sanga cannonballs into the pool and Duke argues over it, causing him to get overly splashed by him as Fallon stands by as Jensen preps to light the barbecue. However, Fallon takes the lighter herself and her setting up the barbecue leaves everyone stunned.

Then, it is off to the ring is the bout for the NXT Womens Tag Team Championships, as the cheered best mate duo of Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade head down to the ring, followed by the defending champions GiGi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, who played down the efforts of their challengers last week against Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. As expected, the NXT Womens Champion Mandy Rose is in tow, following them down the ramp to the title match.

Towards the end of the match, Cora and Roxanne are in control, as the duo double superkick Jacy Jayne. Jacy hits the mat and Cora makes the cover, but after the count of two, Mandy bursts into action, as the meddlesome reigning champion yanks the referee out of the ring, stopping his count. Livid at that, the referee refuses to hear out Mandy’s protests and ejects her from ringside, leaving Jacy and GiGi without their possible help. Meanwhile, Jacy rolls up Cora, but Cora reverses, the referee noticing in time and sliding back to the ring to do the count, but with Jacy kicking out at two. Cora immediately makes her way to Roxanne, tagging her in, but Roxanne doesnt get the offense in, as Jacy stops her with a neckbreaker. GiGi tags in and boots Roxanne, who had already taken a codebreaker from Jacy. GiGi covers, but just after the count of one, Cora re-enters the ring and crashes in on her pin. Jacy slings Cora out of the ring and Roxanne ends up surrounded by both remaining members of Toxic Attraction, but Cora isnt letting Roxanne get hurt, entering the ring again and hitting a crossbody to Jacy and taking her out of the ring after. Meanwhile, Roxanne nails a kick to GiGi and connects with Code Red for the three count. Roxanne and Cora win the match, becoming the NEW NXT Womens Tag Team Champions.

Not too long later, Tony D’Angelo and Channing Lorenzo are backstage with Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro and Elektra Lopez. Tony informs the members of Legado that he has handled Santos, because last week he said he was going to leave with the North American Championship or else. He reveals to Cruz, Joaquin and Elektra a photo of Santos lying on a hospital bed, but even despite being in hospital, he called Tony to laugh at him and no one laughs at Tony D. Now they understand who works for who, he gives his insight into who is the only one doing the work for the family, and that is Elektra. She has increased business by 18 percent, but as for the “clowns” Cruz and Joaquin, hes giving them one last chance next week. They have an opportunity to prove themselves to the family otherwise they will join Santos. Joaquin and Cruz are fuming as Tony and Channing depart, and a concerned Elektra demands that someone calls Santos to make sure he is okay.

Later, we see Tiffany Stratton backstage getting some last minute additional adornments ahead of her match with Wendy Choo. Tiffany closes her eyes and calls for more makeup powder, but her makeup artist scuttles off following the arrival of Wendy Choo. She throws powder right into the face of Tiffany and a blinded Tiffany ends up walking into a door. Tiffany is left screeching and screaming as Wendy takes off with her slushie.

The match between Tiffany and Wendy gets started backstage, spilling onto the stage, down the ramp then finally kicking off in the ring. The ending moments sees Tiffany’s athletic ability put again to use, as she lands on her feet following Wendy’s snap german suplex attempt. Tiffany stomps on the same hand she had ripped Wendys nail off, then dropkicks her into a corner before finalising with the finishing spinning vader bomb to Wendy for the three count. Tiffany wins the match.

Following Tiffany’s victory celebration, its over to the backstage area as McKenzie Mitchell interviews the overjoyed new NXT Womens Tag Team Champions, Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Cora shares that she finally did it. After so long of trying to become a champion, she finally did it, and did it with her best friend. Roxanne calls it surreal. Everythings happened so fast. First she won the Breakout tournament, and now she cant believe she is a tag team champion with her best friend. Both share the sentiment on how good it felt to knock Toxic Attraction off their pedestal, and Roxanne feels ready to end Toxic Attraction once and for all. Next week she cashes in her contract to face Mandy for her NXT Womens Championship. Cora agrees, but first they have got to celebrate.

Later, theres more going on in the backstage area as McKenzie conducts an interview with Ivy Nile. McKenzie is aware that the Creed Brothers face Damon Kemp and Roderick Strong with the NXT Tag Team Championships on the line, wondering if it is the end of the Diamond Mine. Ivy clarifies that the Diamond Mine is a bunch of alpha athletes, and no one can step into their gym unless they are a badass. They have healthy egos and tonight they find out who the best tag team is. Diamond Mine is forever isnt a catchphrase, it is real. However, Ivy has to direct herself away from her Diamond Mine talk as shes distracted by some arguing going on in the background, as her fellow women hover over Kayden Carter arguing with Tatum Paxley, and also there is Katana Chance. Ivy demands the others to leave then comes between Kayden, Katana and Tatum. She tells Kayden that enough is enough, and Kayden just gives a stern look to Tatum as Katana tells her not now and leads her friend away. Tatum tries to thank Ivy for having her back, but Ivy is disappointed. She informs Tatum that to get herself into a situation, she should also be able to get herself out of it. She demands she shows up at the Diamond Mines Gym in the morning, and Tatum agrees with no hesitance.

Later in the evening, McKenzie finds herself doing another interview as this time she is with NXT Womens Champion Mandy Rose backstage. McKenzie reminds Mandy how it has been a tough night for Toxic Attraction since GiGi and Jacy lost their tag team titles and now Roxanne is openly challenging Mandy for her NXT Womens Title. Mandy jokes that nothing gets passed McKenzie, then insists Roxanne and Cora got lucky earlier tonight. This happened before, but GiGi and Jacy corrected themselves days later. Its Rinse and Repeat. Shes pretty sure Roxanne is walking around on her high horse right now, but once her adrenaline wears off, she will realise she made the biggest mistake of her life, because she cant beat her for her title, just like Cora couldnt twice. Roxanne will join Cora next week in the failure club, thats if she makes it to the match.

Then we see Thea Hail and Bohdi Hayward attending class, conducted with Andre Chase. Andre tries to educate them on the Declaration of Independence, but his attention is turned to Bohdi who appears to be sleepy or asleep. Bohdi apologises and tells him that his roommate, Thea, does not sleep. Thea makes that evident considering she had Bohdi watch Money in the Bank about fifty times. Thea adds that she and Bohdi are like Brother and Sister, and Bohdi hesitantly agrees. Another student, Chad, tries to educate Andre on the Declaration of Independence originally being introduced on July 2nd, and therefore that should make July 2nd the original Independence Day. Andre doesnt like that response, throws a load of expletives at Chad and demands him the f*** out of class and to not ever come back. Thea drops the idea of them going to London, with so much history for them to learn. Bohdi doesnt believe it will happen but Andre likes the sound of that and declares they are off to London.

And lastly, Sofia Cromwell is backstage with Von Wagner, Mr Stone and McKenzie Mitchell. Apparently Stone has requested time to talk, and Stone confirms that, fuming and calling it a travesty for Von Wagner to not be a part of the Great American Bash. He blames the fans for it, as does Sofia, speaking on how they have the audacity to squawk about it week after week. Solo Sikoa walks in and says the NXT Universe are telling it how it is and Von is acting like someone who acts like hes owed something. Stone is about to put Sikoa on blast, but Von steps in and says Sofia nor Stone speak for him. If Sikoa wants to run his mouth, they can handle business right now. He welcomes Sikoa to give him his best shot despite the pleas in the background and Sikoa steps over, face to face with him. Just as they are about to attack one another, in come some prepared officials to part Sikoa from Von.

Thoughts On:
NXT Womens Tag Team Championship Match: I enjoyed this match, and as much as i wanted it to go to a DQ, Roxanne and Cora winning was foreseeable. With the rumors of NXT testing the waters eventually for a Cora heel run, theres a chance this ends like Raquel and Dakota’s last, with a swift switch, just not as early as the last. We finally have authentic babyface best friends holding titles together in WWE and they should make the most of it, but i wouldnt be surprised if they go back to Toxic Attraction to try and keep them away from the main roster, because, as much as the main roster could need them, the tag division over there is pretty much non existent. Babyface champions mean they need some heel opposition, and the current champs only really have GiGi and Jacy opposing them, which also might be why they are turning Katana and Kayden. Whereas, the rest of the teams in the division (Ivy and Tatum and Yulisa and Valentina) are babyfaces. As for next week, the fact Roxanne is cashing in her contract could mean the rocket is being even more strapped and she becomes a double champion (which im not usually a fan of). However, theres a chance it could go to a DQ due to a livid Jacy and GiGi to prompt more teases of Nikkita vs Mandy, maybe even with Indi and Nikkita facing off respectively in a contenders match with Nikkita going over, and Mandy goes over Nikkita and then drops to Roxanne in a later rematch, also assuming Nikkita doesnt win the title of course. But with the magnitude of Roxanne cashing in, its likely Roxanne becomes WWEs first female double champion in NXT since Paige.

Tiffany vs Wendy: I really enjoyed this match. Tiffany and Wendys characters are so different but have made for great and fun enemies, and made for great entertainment as well. Considering the street fight element in the beginning and the overall intensity that came with this match, it felt like one of those feud ending matches, with Tiffany, one of the most fastly improved athletes in the womens division, rightfully going over. If Roxanne becomes NXT Womens Champion, i wouldnt be surprised if Tiffany is the one to dethrone her. On a side note, i loved the little moment with Wendy on the red throne backstage, which seemed like a little nod back to the Mei Ying days.
