Cattie’s Catch Up: Alba Fyre vs Mandy Rose for the WWE NXT Womens Championship on WWE NXT (February 8th 2022)

Happy NXT 2.0 Anniversary week everyone. This latest throwback post follows up from this weeks NXT episode, which seemingly began the renewing of the past feud between Alba Fyre (the former Kay Lee Ray) and Mandy Rose. With them potentially about to again be on a collision course, lets look at the last time the two went one on one singles wise back in February.

The match came a week after Mandy initially denied Alba a championship match that she had been demanding for, causing Alba to pursue Mandy backstage and humiliate her before she would eventually cave in. Fast forward to the night of the match, and beforehand, Mandy’s comrades, and then NXT Womens Tag Team Champions GiGi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, were prevented from causing possible interference, attacked backstage by Persia Pirotta and Indi Hartwell, leaving a panicky Mandy Rose to fend for herself. However Jacy and GiGi would return towards the end of the match, with Alba being pushed off the top rope and being levelled by Mandy’s bicycle knee right after. Following Mandy retaining due to the assist of her Toxic Attraction comrades, the humiliation of the once challenger followed as they attacked Alba, up until the former Io Shirai, Iyo Sky, emerged to make the save. Alba and Iyo would end up becoming a tag team, with it speculated that they would challenge GiGi and Jacy for the NXT Womens Tag Team Championships. However, despite their Dusty Classic win, Iyo and Alba instead used it to enter the original title match between Mandy and Cora Jade to make it a fatal four way, but despite the numbers being against the defending champion, Mandy still retained.
