WWE NXT BATTLEGROUND RESULTS: Alliance Affirmed, Schism and Diamond Mine Issues Deepen and New Champion Cemented (May 28th 2023)

Welcome all to this Sundays WWE NXT Battleground report, discussing all things womens wise from the week ending WWE event from the NXT brand. While only one womens match took place on the card, there was a lot going on womens wise on the big show. We’d see Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson in a very shocking alliance and Ivy Nile and Ava Raine getting into it in physical but costly fashion. But, again, lets not forget the match itself, as Lyra Valkyria and Tiffany Stratton battled in the finals of the NXT Womens Championship tournament to decide a new NXT Womens Champion.

Early into the night, theres the battle between former NXT UK Star Noam Dar and Dragon Lee with the NXT Heritage Cup on the line. Nathan Frazer backs Dragon Lee, whereas Noam’s fellow former NXT UK Star Oro Mensah emerges to be surprise help. Oro later gets taken out by Frazer but the later backup arrives, in the form of Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend, who had a minor interaction weeks back with Noam. Jakara distracts, allowing Lash to smack Dragon Lee from behind with an item, Noam of course capitalising with his finisher to take the win. Noam wins the match, posing with his seemingly confirmed stablemates of Jakara, Lash and Oro post match.

Later, Ivy Nile is backing her boys, Julius and Brutus Creeds, who challenge Wolfgang and Mark Coffey of Gallus for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Joe Coffey is, as expected, in the corner of Gallus as well. Later, Ivy is on the receiving end of a revenge attack, as the Schism’s Ava Raine, who has gone at it with Ivy over the weeks, emerges to ram the female Diamond Mine member. The attack outside distracts the Creeds, allowing for Gallus to go on and retain.

Then, prior to the main event comes the finals of the NXT Womens Championship tournament, pitting fellow finalists Lyra Valkyria and Tiffany Stratton against each other to decide the new NXT Womens Champion due to Indi Hartwell vacating the championship weeks back due to a sudden call up to RAW. Stratton, who was rumored to initially win the last title bout due to Indi’s injury, only for it to reportedly stay with Indi due to her powering through injury, went on to obtain gold this time, as she utilised her firemans carry slam to bring down a likely pre injured Lyra right before finalising with Prettiest Moonsault Ever to score the winning three count over the former NXT UK Star. Stratton wins the match, becoming the NEW NXT Womens Champion.

Thoughts On:
Jakara/Lash/Oro/Noam Alliance: This was another surprise for the weekend. I know Jakara and Lash had what looked like a less than pleasing interaction weeks back with Noam, but i didnt think more would come out of it to the point where they suddenly have his back. It is a different and surprising stable to say the least and as much as i feel Lash and Jakara dont need Oro nor Noam, im willing to give it a chance.

Lyra/Stratton: This was a great match, with Tiffany and Lyra meshing well, all while Stratton got to work 15+ minutes while still early into her career. Stratton has really come far in the short time shes been around so seeing her have a championship reign, im excited for it. Plus shes only going to learn more from the experienced foes shes put up against, Lyra already being one notable veteran she got to learn from. I dont know who dethrones Tiffany, but considering how high WWE were on Sol, i wouldnt be surprised if Sol wins it when she gets back.
