WWE NXT: Great American Bash Results: High Flyers Take it to the Meta Four, Submission Wielding Student battles Stratton and Perez Unleashes On Davenport (July 30th 2023)

Welcome all to the NXT Great American Bash report, as the original main roster Pay Per View/Premium Live event made its way to the NXT brand once again. With it, we saw the women featured in various matches and scenarios. With Dominik Mysterios North American Title reign looming over the brand, we got a sighting from Womens World Champion Rhea Ripley, Plus Eight Person Mixed Tag Action, Thea Hail’s secondary shot at the NXT Womens Championship in a Submission Match and Blair Davenport making her Premium Live event in ring return against Roxanne Perez in a highly brutal Weapons Wild Match.

First, its over to the kickoff show, as the Metafour had their first match as a full stable, teaming against the united side of Nathan Frazer, Dragon Lee, Yulisa Leon and Valentina Feroz. First out for the babyface side was Lee, followed by Yulisa and Valentina, debuting a new tron and also theme music, then Fraser, before the Metafour (Lash Legend, Jakara Jackson, Oro Mensah and Noam Dar) came out together. In a match with various fun sequences, Lee would finish Oro in the closing moments with his Sliced Bread Variation for the three count, getting the babyfaces the pre opener victory. Lee, Frazer, Feroz and Leon win the match.

Its only the second match on the main show when we see the women surface again, this time as ongoing enemies Blair Davenport and Roxanne Perez battle in a Weapons Wild Match, getting started early when Davenport ambushes Roxanne from within the crowd. In the end, a more vicious Roxanne Perez risked more damage to the body than already unleashed throughout as she splashed Blair through a table, followed by Pop Rox back inside the ring onto some chairs for the three count. Roxanne Perez wins the match.

Later into the evening, McKenzie Mitchell is backstage with Lyra Valkyria, who went to war with Rhea Ripley days before on NXT. McKenzie looks for some comments from Lyra in regards to that match, despite the loss, and Lyra is fired up. Shes thirsty and wants more because her match with Rhea lit a fire from underneath. That showed that she can go toe to toe with the very best, and with that said, shes very curious about tonights title match between Thea Hail and Tiffany Stratton. As she declares such intent to chase Stratton’s title, Jacy Jayne, who has feuded with Lyra as of late, ambushes the Irish star from behind. A back and forth brawl spills out between the two, with various officials forcefully getting involved to try and separate the fired up women. Enjoying the scene is Rhea Ripley, walking passed the two, knowing that that fire from Lyra is what she was waiting for.

Speaking of Rhea, she accompanies Dominik to his title match against Mustafa Ali and former champion, Wes Lee, who was shockingly dethroned by the Judgment Day member weeks ago, a triple threat being booked on the go home show. Rhea is a major factor in Dominik’s success once more, not only riptiding Wes late into the bout, but pulling Ali from the ring even later, with Dominik getting the three count in the end and retaining his recently won title. Dominik wins the match, retaining the NXT North American Championship.

Then the pre main event bout goes to Tiffany and Thea, as Tiffany defends the NXT Womens Championship against the Chase U Student in a Submission Match, the bout coming weeks after Tiffany tapped out in their past encounter (but going unnoticed by the referee at the time). As vowed, Tiffany utilised a submission in the ending moments, performing a Boston Crab coming off the connection of the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, and with Andre Chase panicked over Thea’s condition, he, to the shock especially of Duke Hudson, threw in the towel for the title contender. Tiffany wins the match, retaining the NXT Womens Championship.

Then, another Rhea Ripley sighting comes ahead of the main event, as herself and Dominik encounter Dragon Lee. After he gives thanks to and leaves Frazer, Leon and Feroz behind, the suited and masked superstar is mocked by the Judgment Day members, as Rhea calls him a wannabe Rey Mysterio. Lee retorts that its an honor to be anything like Rey, who he cites as a legend, but he has his own story, and he also knows that the Judgment Day know who he is. Dominik responds that he made the Mysterio name relevant, whereas his “deadbeat” dad only likes to help others who look like him. He and Rhea then depart.

Thoughts On:
Eight Person Mixed Tag: Theres been a fair few fun mixed tags in WWE’s history, and this was one of them. Everyone meshed well together, especially the babyfaces with their very similar styles. This could have gone either way, especially with it being Dar’s in ring return, but the outcome hurt no one.

Blair vs Roxanne: A really strong match with a stipulation that lived up to expectation, Blair’s interactions over the weeks to Roxanne and the one during the match towards her family adding to the heat in the match. This was another that could have gone either way, especially as Blair has only just returned and this was her first major match back, but Roxanne has been on the backburner and this win was one way to rebuild her.

Thea vs Tiffany: Another good match, but as much as Thea losing could easily be called, the way they did it was shocking. As much as Chase’s care for Thea is understanding, him throwing in the towel for Thea in her redemptive rematch puts a new lot of tension on Chase U and a dark cloud over the groups future. Considering how over they are, i hope they dont break up Chase U, but it wouldnt surprise me at this rate. Either Thea is getting one more rematch with no one at ringside, or Thea’s next focus is Chase U’s future itself.
