Cattie’s Catch Up: Bianca Belair vs Becky Lynch for the WWE Smackdown Womens Championship at WWE Extreme Rules 2021 (September 26th 2021)

Welcome all to this weeks midweek throwback, and its onto the topic of Extreme Rules this time as the next Pay Per View looms, taking place in a couple of weeks time. It can only be assumed as to who Bianca Belair defends her RAW Womens Championship against at the event, but last year she went into Extreme Rules as a challenger, battling Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Womens Championship.

The EST of WWE shot to a new level of stardom in mid 2021 by capturing the Smackdown Womens Championship at WrestleMania from Sasha Banks in not only the second overall Womens Main Event on the WrestleMania stage, but the first to feature only black women. Following that, she racked up successful title defenses against the likes of Bayley and Carmella, and was due to defend against Sasha Banks at Summerslam until unknowing reasons caused for Banks to be pulled from the show. Belairs previous challenger, Carmella, tried to capitalise, but instead came the massive return of Becky Lynch, having been away for a while due to pregnancy and motherhood. She picked up a win in 26 seconds over Belair, stunning the entire WWE Universe, and in turn, won back the Smackdown Womens Championship. Despite her babyface-y return, Becky would be positioned as a heel, and Belair, looking for redemption from that overwhelming loss, won a four way to earn a match against Becky, which was eventually cemented at Extreme Rules. However, as close as Belair would get to possibly winning, Sasha Banks returned to the scene and attacked both her and Becky, setting up a triple threat between them at Crown Jewel over the title.
